WOW Gear Care Guide

Every piece of WOW Gear is made by hand on our small family homestead in D’Arcy, BC, using durable Biothane® and solid brass hardware - built for real adventures and everyday use.

With a little care, your collar or leash can last for years while staying beautiful, strong, and comfortable for your dog.

Everyday Care

To keep your WOW Gear looking its best:

  • Rinse with fresh water after beach days or muddy hikes.
  • Clean gently using mild soap and a soft cloth or brush.
  • Wipe dry and store in a cool, shaded place when not in use.
  • Avoid leaving gear in direct sunlight, hot cars, or near heat sources for extended periods.

Brass Hardware

All WOW Gear uses solid brass hardware - strong, rust-resistant, and naturally beautiful.
Over time, brass will develop a patina (a darker or aged look). This is completely normal and adds character.

If you prefer a shiny finish, you can:

  • Polish gently with a soft cloth, or
  • Use a small amount of brass-safe polish (like Brasso or a natural lemon and baking soda mix).

Avoid soaking brass hardware in vinegar, bleach, or chemical cleaners — they can damage the surface and Biothane coating.

After Saltwater or Mud

Biothane stands up beautifully to water, but a quick rinse helps it last longer.
After swimming or salty beach adventures:

  1. Rinse gear thoroughly in fresh water.
  2. Wipe clean and dry with a towel.
  3. Let it air dry completely before storing.

This prevents mineral buildup and keeps hardware working smoothly.

What to Avoid

To extend the life of your WOW Gear, please avoid:

  • Topical sprays or oils (such as flea/tick repellents, sunscreen, or essential oils)
  • Harsh chemicals or alcohol-based cleaners
  • Chewing, scratching, or clawing
  • Using the gear as a tie-out or for unsupervised restraint
  • Storing in direct sun or damp areas for long periods

These can weaken the Biothane coating or discolor the hardware.

Hardware Maintenance

If your buckle or snap gets stiff, rinse it under warm water and apply a small drop of natural oil (such as olive or coconut oil) around the hinge.
Wipe off any excess before using.
