In May 2017, we adopted our dog, Uma, from WAG Animal Shelter. It was love at first sight - but her journey to recovery wasn’t easy. Uma, also known as Olive, was one of WAG's critical care cases. She was suffering from demodectic mange and entropion, a rare and painful condition where the eyelid rolls inward, rubbing against the eyeball.
The support we received from the shelter and our local veterinary clinic was incredible, but watching Uma suffer without being able to fully help her was heartbreaking. Surgery was the only solution for her entropion, but it was still several months away.
To make matters worse, just a week after bringing Uma home, her mange began to worsen. She lost most of her hair, and her skin turned pink, covered in sores and scabs. The constant itching and severe discomfort made every day a struggle.
Desperate to ease her suffering, we began exploring alternative treatments for her mange, determined to find natural remedies that could provide her some much-needed relief.
As we searched for ways to help Uma, Constantine - a professional human chef -began researching dog nutrition and holistic pet care. What he discovered opened our eyes to an entirely new world.
We learned about natural remedies, but we also realized how little we knew about the food and treats we were buying for Uma. Almost every dog treat we found was packed with additives, high in carbs, and filled with ingredients we couldn’t even pronounce. Finding treats with clean, simple ingredients seemed nearly impossible.
That’s when we decided to take matters into our own hands and started making our own treats.
Living in Pemberton, we were fortunate to have access to the best local farms. Constantine began experimenting with recipes, crafting nutritious and delicious treats not just for Uma but also for our friends’ and family’s dogs.
What started as a simple solution for our own dog quickly grew into something much bigger - a passion for creating better treats for all dogs.
In the summer of 2018, we joined the Pemberton Farmers’ Market to share our passion for wholesome, natural dog treats with other pet parents. The incredible support and encouragement we received from the Pemberton community gave us the confidence to keep going.
Later that same summer, we expanded to the Whistler Farmers’ Market, and the following year, we joined the Squamish Farmers’ Market. Along the way, we made many friends within the makers and farmers' community and built lasting connections with our regular customers who supported us every step of the way.
Giving back to the community that supported us from the very beginning has always been important to us. As animal lovers and proud parents of three rescues, it felt natural to make giving back a core part of our small business. A portion of our proceeds supports local shelters' critical care funds, and we also donate treats to shelter animals, spreading love and care to those who need it the most.
Our story wouldn’t be possible without YOU.
We are deeply grateful and promise to continue doing what we do best: creating delicious and nutritious treats for your four-legged family members.
With love,
Tina, Constantine, and Uma
