Correct sizing ensures your dog’s collar fits securely and comfortably. Below are two simple ways to measure your dog so you can choose the right size with confidence.
1. Measure Your Dog’s Neck
This is the most accurate method.
- Place a soft measuring tape around your dog’s neck where the collar naturally sits.
- Pull the tape snug against the fur – not tight, not loose.
- Add enough room for one to two fingers under the tape.
- Use this number when selecting your collar size.
- Your collar will be built so this measurement sits at the third (middle) hole.
If you don’t have a soft tape, use a piece of string, ribbon, or yarn. Mark the length around the neck, then measure that piece with a ruler.
2. Measure an Existing Collar
If your dog already has a collar that fits well, you can size from that.
- Lay the collar flat on a table.
- Measure from the start of the strap (directly after the buckle) to the hole your dog normally wears.
- Do not include the buckle in your measurement.
- Select this exact number when choosing your size.
If the measurement falls between full numbers, select the closest size and include the exact measurement in your order notes. We will build your collar based on the number you provide.

- Fasten the collar as your dog normally wears it.
- Lay it flat on a table.
- Measure from the beginning of the flat female buckle to the very end of the strap.
- Do not include the male buckle piece (the side with the prongs) in your measurement.

How WOW Gear Sizing Works
Each collar is custom-built, so the size you select lines up with the third (middle) hole. This provides comfortable adjustability for coat changes, minor weight changes, and daily wear.
Tips for Accurate Measuring
- Measure twice for accuracy.
- Use a soft tape or string, not a metal household tape measure.
- Carefully follow the measuring instructions for your collar style.
- Avoid rounding up to full inches. Select the closest size and include your dog’s exact measurement in the order notes.
